About Main Stage
September 2023

A lot can happen in a month.
It’s often like that working on a stage show.
In the span of a month, a cast and director can meet to discuss the material, flesh-out motivations, solidify design choices, and rehearse stage movement. What comes naturally next is the memorization of lines and exchanges between characters.
But did we mention the show is FULLY COMMITTED…and the 40 characters are all played by ONE actor?
Yeah, it’s a lot.
“It’s tight-rope-walking-without-a-net-above-a-vat-of-crocodiles-level scary,” director Christopher Willard says of the show’s demands. “It can intimidate the most steely-nerved Mt. Everest climber. But our actor takes it all in stride and makes it seem effortless.”
The actor in question is Dakota Mansfield, a Little Rock performer making his area debut in his first-ever one-man show.
“I’ve always been good at memorizing,” Mansfield says. “It comes in handy for an actor.”
There’s handy, and there’s certifiable. Mansfield has to memorize 50 pages of dialogue — 50! — and play every character and each side of the conversation featured in the show.
“If Koty drops a line, no one’s there to pick it up,” Willard adds. “The only other actor on stage…is himself.”
Mansfield leaves the stage just once (for 45 seconds) and has to sustain a highly energetic and focused level of storytelling for the entire 90 minute run-time.
“No doubt, it’s a marathon,” he agrees.
Mansfield plays Sam, a scrappy and likable Midwesterner, who answers the reservations line at Manhattan’s trendiest restaurant. He also portrays the various socialites, celebrities, and over-the-top New York types who call-in to try and secure the perfect table at the perfect time.
“The restaurant basically monetizes FOMO,” Willard jokes. “Sam’s also an actor trying for a last-shot career break while maintaining his humanity working a job from hell. It’s thrilling to see one actor create this madcap world of Sam and his crazy callers right before your eyes.”
Willard chose the show as the inaugural offering of Lakefront Arts, his new Ozarks production company. It’s the kind of event theatre he loves producing (he directed shows for twenty years in Colorado). And it was a familiar title for him — he’s performed the show, on-and-off, since the early 2000s.
“It’s like that Godfather 3 line,” he jokes. “Every time I thought I was out, it pulled me back in.”
FULLY COMMITTED finally premiered on Broadway in 2016 (starring Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson), and Willard knew he wanted to revisit the story — this time as director — to share the newly revised script and explore the play’s resonant cultural themes.
“It’s still a show for anyone who’s ever worked a lousy job,” he explains, “only now it strikes a deeper chord about pay inequity and toxic privilege. It’s a leaner, meaner look at the struggles of the 99%.”
So what do the next thirty days of rehearsal look like for this intrepid theatrical duo?
“Now is when the real fun starts,” Willard says. “We get to explore what’s underneath the lines. Set the rhythms. Perfect the comic moments. And build a solid foundation for Sam’s story — the story of a little guy just trying to get a break in a big dog-eats-little dog world. But Sam’s a scrapper. He always surprises when it you think he’s down for the count. Like each of us, he won’t easily let go of his dreams. He’s a great character in a truly great show.”
FULLY COMMITTED opens…in one month.

Ecstatic Dance - “Movement as a Spiritual Practice” Gabrielle Roth
What is it ?- Why do it? Rhythm is our mother tongue. Energy moves in waves. Waves move in pattern. Patterns move in rhythms. A human being is just that, energy, waves, patterns, rhythms. Ecstatic Dance is a free form, no technique, no following someone else’s style. Allowing yourself to be led by gentle suggestions of expression and embracing the feel of the music, you become familiar with how you express using arms, legs, head, feet, hands and breath, throwing down your mask and finding your real face. We begin by embracing and expressing both the body and spirit, the feminine and masculine energies of our nature. In the alchemy of these two forces the soul is expressed. the music will dance you in any way shape or form that is expressly your own way. Join me, experience Ecstatic Dance. No Experience needed.
